PIE INITIATIVE / HARVARD-WESTLAKE FRUIT HARVEST AND FRESH PRODUCE DRIVE

I am currently attending 9th Grade at Harvard-Westlake school in Los Angeles. I took a leadership course this year where I told my teacher and friends about the PIE INITIATIVE fruit harvests. After making a few presentations, the school allowed the students to pick unattended fruits from their gardens and bring them to me. The students received an hour for community service and I ended up with lots of fresh produce. I brought the fruits to the NOURISH LA Sunday market. I met with Nourish LA volunteers and prepared the produce to be donated to people in need. A win/win situation. My friends got some exercise picking fruit from their trees, their fruit didn’t go to waste and people who need the produce received it for free.
My plan is to do this fresh produce drive at school next year, the 2022-23 school year.
